Gallo Giro Zine Club: September 2026 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the first Gallo Giro Zine Club newsletter, a monthly newsletter dropping straight to your inbox to keep you updated on all happenings with our zine club.

During the Gallo Giro Zine Club birthday picnic, Blanca (founder of GGZC) mentioned to some folks that they would love for our goal this next year of zine club to be strengthening our club. We have been growing so much for three years and I think this is a good place to pause and ask ourselves how we can really strengthen our relationships with each other, our zine club with the community, and overall the larger zine community. Kudos to the folks that have already been tossing ideas our way! Keep them coming!

One idea we would like to start experimenting with is exploring different methods of communication when it comes to sharing about zine club sessions or opportunities. Currently our main mode of communication is instagram. We do have an email but we mainly set that up for secret zinester lol Some suggestions mentioned at the picnic included email newsletter, irl snail mail newsletter, and passing out physical flyers.

Hence this newsletter! While the first and foremost purpose of it will be to share upcoming zine club meetups, I think we can totally get creative with it! Maybe use this newsletter to share about any cool zine fests or zine making events, highlighting zinesters in the club, sharing creative resources, and even giving each other heads up about fun events in our community we would be down to explore together! Let us know what y’all think and maybe we can continue to brainstorm how to envision this newsletter.

With that said, make sure to save this newsletter contact in your email so it doesn’t go to spam. Let another zine club buddy know about signing up for the newsletter.

Now for September! Here is the latest news for our zine club this September:

Dinner with Zine Club, Wednesday September 16 at 8pm, El Gallo Giro

Typically our in-person meet ups are regular zine making sessions but for this one, we want to just have a cozy dinner time with y’all <3 Lets catch up, share a meal or a pan y cafecito, and maybe do a little dreamin’ about zine club together.

Virtual Meetup, Wednesday September 30 at 8pm

Get your zine making tools ready for our virtual meet up! By this time we will be officially in fall season, so expect a cozy, fall prompt in case you need something to jump off.

Potential event: Downey City Library Beyond the Book (Saturday, Oct 4 10am-4pm)

This might be a possible tabling/workshop opportunity!! I signed up our zine club to participate in this event and facilitate a zine making station. I’ll keep y’all posted if we hear back from them to confirm to then send out a volunteer interest form. If it does not work out, maybe we can make this a field trip! More on this soon.
